Zahir-ud-din Muhammad, popularty known as Babur.(the lion), was born in 14 February 1483 Andijan, Uzbekistan. He was the son of Umar Sherkh (a descendentut of Timur) who ruled over the kingdom of Farghana. After the death of his father, Babur became the king at the age of eleven, He had to struggle hard to maintain control over his possessions. Though he soon lost Farghana to his enemies, he ultimately succeeded in occupying Kabul. After three failed attempts to conquer Samarkand, he decided to try his luck in India. He was born to rule, and he would rule, even if it meant conquering hot, dusty India. Babur was a military genius who skillfully combined his artillery with his cavalry to win battles.

Babur inflicted a crushing defeat on Ibrahim Lodi in the first battle of Panipat in 21 april 1526 AD. He had to face two other enemies in north India Rana Sanga of Mewar and the Afghan chief of Bengal. He defeated both and estabtished a powerful empire in India. When Babur invaded India in 1525 on the invitation from alam khan, the uncle of Ibrahim lodhi, as well as from Daulat Khan and the Rana Sanga they wanted to end the rule of lodhi's. They thought Babar would defeat the Lodhi ruler and then go back to Central Asia and living North in India under the control but their dream did not come to true.  Babur decided to stay and rule over India. Ibrahim Lodi was the king of a fairly large state which included Agra, Delhi and some parts of Punjab. He was defeated by Babur on the battle and was killed in the first battle of Panipat on 21 April 1526.  After this famous battle, Babur entrusted an army team to his son Humayu and Khaja Kilakan to conquer Agra. At the same time.  Babur left for Delhi so that he could conquer Delhi.

'Gul-e-Afshan', now called 'Ram-Bagh'

After conquering Delhi, Babur left for Agra and went straight from there to Ibraham Lodi's palace on 10 May 1526 where Humayu welcomed his father and presented him with the famous diamond "Kohinoor". When Babur first lived in Agra, he did not want to live in India. But after some time he changed his mind and decided that he would stay in India now, and he established the Mughal empire. Babur fought all his life and never spent his life in a peaceful manner. But he spent the last four years of his life in Agra. At the time of Babur, Agra was 2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide. In this small moment of life, he built a beautiful garden, known as 'Gul-e-Afshan', now called 'Ram-Bagh'. It is situated on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River and some 5 kilometers from the main city. It is said that Babur loved gardens and 'Aaram Bagh' is an incredible garden.  This garden has a bathing place and a mosque. He dead on 1 December 1530. It was Babar's heart's desire that he stay in Agra after his death in this Aaram Bagh. For this reason his dead body was buried for some time in Aaram-Bagh and then his dead body was taken to Kabul where he could rest.
